LA had his highs and its lows, but Erik and I were both glad to finally leave the City of Angels today. We left around 9:30 AM and found a reasonably priced hotel near downtown relatively quickly. After checking in, we went to pick up my friend Mary at the airport, who flew in for the week since we're here for 5 days, and who wouldn't want to go to San Diego if presented the opportunity? Today was another off day, and the three of us spent the afternoon walking around downtown San Diego and an area known as Gastown. We saw a pretty secluded and outstanding outdoor mall down there and it was definitely the highlight of the day. We also got to preview PETCO Park a little bit before we visit it tomorrow for the game.
After exploring downtown, we stopped at a little old movie theater on the way back to the hotel and saw the Simpsons Movie, which ended up being pretty good and long overdue. After a quick bite to eat and a half-price bottle of wine at a nice tapas restaurant in Gastown, we arrived back at the hotel around 8pm. Mary was pretty beat since she's still mentally on east coast time and immediately fell asleep, and Erik and I stayed up for a bit blogging. Tomorrow we plan on heading to the beach and doing a bit more sightseeing before going to the Padres game at 7.
